Early 20s male here who is fortunate enough to have some free time in between jobs and will be traveling to New Orleans for five full days this February BEFORE Mardi Gras. I will be staying at a friend's place Uptown near Audubon Park for the first three nights and then spend the last three nights solo in Marigny.
I'm generally pretty adventurous, love trying new things and am interested in all the city has to offer, including food, music, nightlife, architecture, history, and nature. I'm definitely interested in saving money but am not afraid to splurge if its worth it.
Here's what I'm looking for your guidance on:
- Where is the best place to get the following food items (preferably near where I will be staying (Uptown near Audubon Park and/or Marigny) but if there's an absolute must elsewhere I will make the trek:
- Beignet?
- Muffaletta?
- Po'boy Sandwich?
- Crawfish?
- Gumbo?
- Jambalaya?
- Else?
- Where's the best bar to:
- Hear some lively jazz on a weekday?
- Sip a Sazerac and feel fancy?
- Get down and dirty in the French Quarter on a weekday?
- Sit outside and people watch during the day?
- Meet a single lady my age on a weekday?
- Else?
- What's the best way to get to see antebellum plantations without a car? Tour? And should I see any besides Oak Alley? How much time should I budget?
- Where's the best place to see some bayou nature and how should I get there without a car? How much time should I budget?
- Where's the best places to go for a morning run? Where should I avoid?
- What else in the city should I consider doing/seeing besides (any advice on the below items welcome as well):
- Cemetery tour
- WWII museum
- Catching the streetcar on St. Charles Ave through the Garden District
- Audubon Zoo
- Steamboat Natchez
Thank you all so much!
