Looking to do a cross-country roadtrip and looking for advice!

Hey all! I’m 20, itching to travel and looking to go on a trip soon! I’m on the east coast looking to go to either Nevada or Arizona, but the destination isn’t so much the idea than it is the journey.

I haven’t travelled much. This is my time to explore and I want to do it solo as a way to kinda clear my head and see if I can rewire it a bit. As such, I’d really appreciate any advice, stuff to keep in mind, ideal amount of money to set aside, stuff to bring that I might overlook, etc.

Nothing is set in stone, but here are the things I have in mind: - I’m planning for about a week out. Maybe two days to work remotely from a hotel (I’m a programmer) - My car is in decent shape and has around 70k miles on it - I’m in a northeastern state and it’d be around a 2,500 mile trip one way - I definitely want to go to one of the desert states. I want to be able to see the stars as clear as possible at night. That’s a dream of mine. - Any events or places to visit on the way are definitely appreciated as suggestions!

Current states I’d be looking at going through are NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MO, KS, CO, UT and either AZ or NV.

Timeframe is late September to October.

I’m not horribly concerned about cost but I’m definitely not a millionaire.

Thank you so much!
