Do I need to renew my passport?

Hey guys,

I'm an American, and I have been living in New Zealand for the past year on a working holiday visa. In December, I am going to Australia and Asia before returning to the US. But, my passport is almost out of pages. I have one completely empty page, plus one page at the end that I'm not sure is a page for visas (it's page 25 in my passport, but doesn't say "visas" at the top like the rest of the pages). I also have 3-4 pages with only a few stamps and thus some room left.

I will be going to these countries in this order: Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, US.

My question is, will I be able to get away with not renewing my passport? I'm hesitant to do it because it involves sending my passport to the US consulate in Auckland, and if something goes wrong or it doesn't get returned before December I will be stuck without one. I know Vietnam gives a full page passport sticker, but do any other countries do this?
