Driving from Venice to Dolomites/Cortina 1 day trip. Advice needed.

First time traveling to Europe and I'm planning to drive from Venice to Dolomite/Cortina. Have a couple of question want to know before executing the plan.

  1. I have a NYS driver license. Can I rent/drive a car in international? Or do I need to apply for some international driver license? Or the rental company I apply will be ok with my NYS license?
  2. Auto insurance is it needed?? I read that some credit card cover it to some extent. I have Chase Sapphire Reserve. Hopefully that's good of an auto insurance coverage?? Or better to purchase one?
  3. Since I'm traveling aboard I would only have 3G not sure if my t-mobile signal roaming will drop while driving up to the mountain areas. Should I get a pocket wifi/local sim to be in safe side? If local sim what company or where can I purchase one in Venice?
  4. Is there any other stuff I should be worry about driving to Cortina/Dolomite?
