We were there 3 years ago and spent all of our time in Lisbon area including day trip to Sintra and visiting family near Castelo Branco/central Portugal (including Monsanto (!) and made a day trip to a fortress city in Spain) and fell in love with the country
This time we want to see more and do it via road trip. Going late September. Other than staying with family again, we will be staying at Air BnBs.
Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
Day 1: Arr LIS, get car and drive to Evora. Grab a hot shower. See some of the city.
Day 2: Evora again. Some jet lag recovery but mostly seeing local sites including the megaliths nearby.
Day 3: Head to family near Castelo Branco. Will hit one or both of Monsaraz and Marvao, old fortress cities.
Days 4-6 stay with family. Do laundry. Drink local wine.
Day 7: drive to Lamego via Serra Da Estrela. Spend night outside Lamego overlooking the Douro.
Day 8: Drive to Porto. Staying in new Porto with amazing view of Old Porto.
Day 9: Porto. Maybe travel to Guimaraes/Braga or just relax seeing more of Porto.
Day 10: Drive to Coimbra. Maybe hit Aveiro for lunch.
Day 11: Coimbra.
Day 12: Drive to Lisbon. Maybe see some/all/none of Batalha, Alcobaça, Obidos on our way. Drop off car at airport and take taxi into Chiado Air BnB. Pub crawl.
Day 13: Lisbon. Seek out canned fish (somehow missed last time) for eating and gifting.
Day 14: Lisbon. Make Pastel de nata.
Day 15: Fly home.
