I have a trip planned for Germany in dec, and I was wondering how important german is in the northwest part of germany(think Cologne, dusseldorf and Bonn), I'll be visiting that area in Dec and wanted to see if I can get by in english or if I should Duolingo some basic german? I can also speak French(well Quebecois), spanish and Portuguese and can bullshit my way in Russian and Polish if needed be. I've been to germany several times, both as a member of the US armed Forces and to visit an ex who lives there(she's a local so me knowing german wasn't needed). Please let me know if I should reschedule my plans to a country I can speak the language in or not.
Thanks in advance.
