HELP. Accidentally travelled with an invalid passport...

I have been travelling from the UK to USA, Puerto Rico and then finally to the BVI. A few months before I departed I had lost my passport and applied for a new one. I had already booked all the flights using my old (lost) passport. After I had ordered my new passport I then found my old passport. I decided to bring the old passport on the trip with me Incase I had any issues checking in with my new passport, as all the flights had my old passport number on the details.

On my trip from Puerto Rico to BVI I accidentally handed the check in person my OLD PASSPORT. He checked in with it ok and gave me my boarding cards, after this I then only used my new passport (to get through Puerto Rico security and upon arrival at BVI). I did all this with no issues but I received a text saying “There has been an update to your ESTA Travel Authorization Status submitted on January 7, 2019. Please visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta to check your application.”

I went on and checked and it still says approved. Tomorrow I travel from BVI to Peurto Rico, then Peurto Rico to New York and then New York to Dublin.

Am I going to run into trouble for not destroying my old passport, am I going to get stopped upon entry, what are the repercussions, what should I say if I’m stopped? Should I destroy the old passport now?

If anyone has any experience or inside knowledge please let me know ASAP! I’m freaking out here.
