Canada-US roadtrip itinerary help - Summer 2020

Hi all,

Hoping to ask for some help with a Canada-US road trip itinerary from Vancouver to Austin next summer! We’ll drive our own vehicle and we’ve got about 3 weeks (maybe a bit more). We'll be doing this in August, so I know we’ll need to be smart about managing the heat. Both of us like to drive and have done road trips before, including up and down the West Coast from BC to southern California. We’re fit and enjoy hiking, excellent food and drinks, and checking out local culture and kitschy Americana. Obviously we’re leaning hard into a National Parks theme here and seeing some of that incredible nature is what we're especially excited for.

Questions:

  • If we had to cut this down to 21 days, what should we skip?

  • Are we biting off way, way more than we can chew and if so how would you re-organize us?

  • Are there other places you’d swap in, or things we should be sure to see along the way?

  • Any general tips we should know?

Itinerary:

  • Vancouver, BC
  • Lake Louise, AB (2 nights - visiting friends)
  • Glacier National Park, MT (2 nights)
  • Yellowstone National Park, WY (3 nights)
  • Jackson Hole, WY (2 nights – base out of here to see Grand Teton)
  • Grand Teton National Park, WY
  • Hurricane, UT/Springdale/St George (4 nights – base out of one of these to see Zion and Bryce)
  • Zion National Park, UT
  • Bryce Canyon National Park, UT
  • Page, UT (2 nights – base out of here to see Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon)
  • Horseshoe Bend, AZ
  • Antelope Canyon, AZ
  • Monument Valley, UT/AZ
  • Moab, UT (4 nights – base out of here to see Canyonlands and Arches)
  • Canyonlands National Park, UT
  • Arches National Park, UT
  • Denver, CO (3 nights – visiting friends)
  • Santa Fe, NM (2 nights)
  • Roswell, NM (drive through)
  • Will probably need to stop overnight somewhere along the way here…?
  • Austin, TX

Thanks in advance!
