I've been invited to a friend's wedding in Delhi in January, and managed to get two and half weeks off for the whole she-bang. Given 2-3 days on travel turnaround, 3 days for the wedding, and 3 days for tourism in and around Delhi (Taj, etc), I'm left with 8 days to backpack around Rajasthan. I don't know if or when I'll have another excuse to go to India, and so I figure I ought to crush what I can this go around, and don't mind excess walking/rough sleeping.
Based on recommendations from friends and some online research, I've come up with the following rough itinerary, starting in Jaisalmer (I'll fly there the night before).
- Jaisalmer - Day trip out to Kuldhara Ghost Village and Sam Sand Dunes.
- Jaisalmer - Jaisalmert Fort. Train to Jodhpur in the evening.
- Jodhpur - Toorji Ka Jhalra Stepwell, Blue Houses, Mehrangarh Fort.
- Udaipur (Early morning) - City Palace, Lake Sunset. Night train to Jaipur.
- Jaipur - Amer Fort, City Palace/Hawa Mahal.
- Jaipur - Ranthambore Nat'l Park Day Trip.
- Jaipur - ???, Chand Baori Step Well, Get to Delhi.
- Spare Day to be Inserted Somewhere.
The two bold items are ones where I'm not totally sure where to go/what to see - any knowledgeable redditors ant to pipe in? Also open to suggestions on other things worth checking out in or around any of these cites.
