Yes, I know this sounds like the plot of The Holiday. Now that I think about it, I’m also a blonde, 30-something who lives in CA... maybe I need to rewatch the film.
What I’m looking for: I’m open to warm or cold locations. I love museums, plays, markets, and trying new food. Interested in maybe local cooking classes? Fine with a “christmassy feel”, so not trying to escape Christmas, but not a necessity. Budget is probably moderate, I’m past my hostel days, I think. Have flight points, so that will make my options easier! Likely flying out of San Francisco, Dec 20-28. Very independent, adventurous, well-travelled, and don’t mind being on my own. Would probably want to stick to 1-2 places for that time period, so looking for something that wouldn’t get stale after a day or two. Have enjoyed Edinburgh, London, Thailand, Bali, and San Sebastián. Dislike: tourist traps or places that I’d need to rent a car the entire time. Walkable or good public transport would be great.
Background: This Christmas will be my first without my small kiddo, after separation. Looking for a last-minute one-week getaway during Christmas season. I have full custody and rarely (never) get this much time “off”. Although the timing is brutal, I’d feel I have to make the most of it, and would like to keep busy.
TL;DR: Single parent alone on Christmas - want to make the most of it and find somewhere walkable to jet away to for a week, last minute.
