I really love being a tourist in my own town. I can walk down the same streets for hours, month after month, and always notice something new.
But sightseeing while travelling kinda leaves me cold. I think it's the lack of relationship with the place I'm visiting – these streets aren't part of my routine, I don't have a connection with them, I can't watch them evolve over time. (I travel solo, which I really enjoy, but maybe I'd feel differently if I had someone to talk to while wandering around!)
I really enjoy the more "structured"/activity-based aspects of travelling, like seeing shows, visiting museums, sitting down to sketch, etc., but I want to become a better flaneur. What do you do to make sightseeing feel more meaningful?
