10-day road trip through Italy - your insight

We are looking into a roughly 10-day road trip through Italy in mid-April. We are planning to rent a car to enjoy the coastal highways and countryside drives.

I have seen this map, which seems like a lot to do in 10 days. Instead, I'm thinking we do either the "top half" (Rome and points north), or the "bottom half" (Rome and points south).

Considering the timeline and time of year, what are your thoughts? We'd love to visit the Dolomites, but my understanding is that it'll be too early to enjoy any hikes up there.
