Hello, friendly folks. We're planning our first trip to Switzerland and looking for some advice. Any help is appreciated!
Does this itinerary look okay? Missing anything major? We are looking for a slow paced, relaxed trip.
Day 1: Zurich to Lucerne, nothing planned since it's a late flight in
Day 2: Lucerne
Day 3: Things around Lautenbrunnen (our base, probably hike around and visit nearby villages)
Day 4: Things around Lautenbrunnen (again, probably hang out in the villages, no mountain excursions)
Day 5: Montreux
Day 6: Lausanne, maybe Gruyeres
Day 7: Geneva and flying out
Should we do the Swiss Pass or Half Fare Pass?
I've priced out both options, and the Swiss Pass seems to be about $50USD/person more than the Half Pass based on my predicted itinerary. But maybe the flexibility is worth it? If we do the Swiss Pass, we would do a 4 day for Days 3-6. Would pay full price to get to Lucerne and Geneva. Would stay local in Lucerne (plan even with the half fare card).
Any tips on keeping food prices reasonable?
We have been warned by everyone of the food prices. Any tips on keeping it reasonable? Even at home, we typically only eat one big meal, with coffee for breakfast and snacks (salami, nuts, cheese, fruits, etc.) for lunch. I assume buying snack items at the grocery and eating out for lunch rather than dinner is the best way to go?
Thank you guys again for any help you can provide! We've never been to Switzerland, so we're excited!
