As the title says, I’m planning on traveling to Australia. Looking at going mid March. I’m almost 30 years old and haven’t traveled outside of the USA in almost 15 years. I’ll be going alone, which is quite nerve-wracking since I’m not at all the type to figure out stuff to do all alone when I’m out and about.
Amazingly, tickets are quite cheap. I’ll be going to the east coast of Aus (Gold Coast mostly, landing in Brisbane). Whole reason I’m going is because I want to visit a female friend whom I met when she was here on vacation 6 months ago. I’ve a bunch of PTO accrued at work, so I figure I may as well use some of it and enjoy someplace new.
I’m posting here because I need advice. What all should I bring, what should I not bring, will I need plug adapters (I recall having to have these when I went to Europe), is Uber/Lyft a thing out there (what should I use for transportation when going from Brisbane to GC), any hotel recommendations, bars to drink at, things to do, and places to go? Since I mentioned the main reason I’m going is to spend time with my friend, if (for whatever unlikely reason) things go sour between us or she has some sort of family emergency that pulls her away, I’d need to know of some things to do on my own. I don’t think I’ll be spending every waking moment with her so I’d need things to do besides vegetate in a hotel room. I’d rather ask the reddit community about most of this as I’d get a much wider variety of responses than just asking my friend.
Thanks in advance y’all.
