Visited Machu Picchu in January which is technically rainy season. Fortunately we did not have much rain and also had small crowds which was nice. Machu Picchu was amazing. It's hard to describe, but it's just a magical place. My best recommendation for anyone thinking of going is to try to stay at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge for a night if you can swing it. It is right outside the entrance to Machu Picchu as opposed to all other lodging which is 30-40 minutes away down a winding dirt road. In addition I would recommend getting a second admission ticket. On our first visit, it was very cloudy and we could barely see some of the mountains and buildings. The next day it was sunny and we even saw a rainbow. Highly recommended!
