Ruta de las Cascadas- Baños, Ecuador - am I too unathletic?

Has anyone biked the Ruta de las Cascadas?

My friend and I are going to Ecuador for spring break and have budgeted a few days for Baños de Agua Santa. Pretty much everywhere suggested to rent a bike and go down the Ruta de las Cascadas and it looks amazing! The only thing I’m concerned about is the fitness level required. I would just like to see the waterfalls and don’t want to be super tired and irritated during it. I would describe my fitness level as “never works out, could run a mile if I needed to but would be very tired if I did.” I’m fairly large for my size too. My friend I’m going with is very athletic, and my biggest fear is to slow him down or have to quit because I just can’t do it. All of the travel blogs I’m seeing are from very fit people who seem used to doing stuff like this, and I’m honestly terrified.

Does anyone who is not particularly fit have experience with the Ruta de las Cascadas? How was it for you, and how far did you go? Is it really all downhill? Was it scary? Also, if anyone has any other specific suggestions/excursions in Baños where you can see beautiful things without dying of bronchospasm I’d love to hear it!!
