How do i plan to visit a friend in Canada?

I've never traveled before but i have alot of travel experience from lots of family vacations both national amd international. I know i need a passport and to pack essentials. What I'm concerned about its the financial aspect of it like overall how much money is needed for a week atleast, what airports and transportation, hotels, etc. I can most likely handle aiport stuff I'ts just the idea of traveling solo is intimidating and exciting to me and i wanna make sure the first time i pull this off i do it right. Also the person lives in Alberta
