Preferred Airline for International Travel?

Hi there!

Looking to book my first international flight for December/January, NYC to London - Rome back to NYC. I'm looking at Finnair and American Airlines right now since prices are around $270-$290 total. I know everyone tends to have a preferred airline during travel, I'm just curious as to what everyone's is and/or if I should book with another airline. Not looking to check bags, looking to just take a carryon-- 40L Osprey Farpoint.
