What kind of car insurance I should enrolled in over the counter while renting a car in NJ

Hi, I am a graduate international student in NJ. I do have a student health insurance provided by my school via Aetna. I don't own a car. And I asked Aetna they said their coverage will kicked in for bodily injury in a auto injury. So I want to know given that I have personal injury covered up by my student health insurance plan, what over the counter insurance plans I should accept/reject in order to meet minimum law requirement + car collision/theft coverage in order to make sure I am not paying for something for which I don't have to pay.

Thanks a lot for clearing this up for me as I am struggling to understand it for last 6 months as neither Aetna nor my school is able to help me out.

P. S: My trips normally includes tri-state area on east cost.
