Planning a trip Across America for the Summer of 2021

TLDR: I want recommendations on where to go on a road trip across America

My friend and I graduate high school in 2021 and want to do a fun trip across America and maybe into some parts of Canada and Mexico all inside a van that we will live in. We would start in Boston Massachusetts.

Our route is far from set in stone, however, this is the general idea.

  • Boston to chicago 987 miles directly
  • Chicago to denver 1002 miles directly
  • Denver to idaho falls and yellowstone 600 miles directly
  • Idaho falls to missoula 313 miles directly
  • Missoula to vancouver 611 miles directly
  • Vancouver to Loreto Mexico 2145 miles directly
  • Loreto to grand canyon 953 miles directly
  • Grand canyon to Nashville 1753 miles directly
  • Nashville to Myrtle beach SC 590 miles directly
  • Myrtle beach to Boston 912 miles directly

The long stretches are largely because we do not know what we should visit in between those locations.

We would love any recommendations as to national parks, bodies of water, cities with a unique character or any other interesting location relatively close to the route described above.

Also does anyone know a good subreddit for learning about how to maximize the experience and be efficient with money on a trip like this.
