At the moment I am furloughed from work (not going back still for a few months) and am thinking about taking a road trip. I live in Phoenix and have time to kill, not doing too bad on money at the moment either.
Heres the general route I want to do. https://imgur.com/EL7hW4T
Apparently I reached the limit of google maps stops, so I want to add in a few mountain towns in Colorado (Breckenridge, Vail, Frisco, Aspen?). Any advice on must do's or skips on mountain towns would be greatly appreciated. I've already been to Boulder and would just spend a night in Denver (already been).
I've never been to the Wyoming area... Mainly just want to hit Jackson hole & Yellowstone. Anything else I can easily see on the way?
Also never been to Idaho/Montana... I have no idea what there is to do/see in this area. My main objective is to get over to Seattle (been before) where I can stay with a friend. Any must dos on the way? Is Boise worth seeing? Boise vs Helena? Neither? Should I skip this area entirely and check out Salt Lake instead?
Then I want to make my way down through Portland (been before) and over to Bend. I've heard Bend is cool? Truth to this? I would probably hit up Eugene and Corvallis and then make my way to Bend (again, a limit on stops in google maps so the line isn't exact). I haven't been to the Oregon coast... is it worth going out of my way for? Should I skip Bend for the coast instead? Then make my way down to San Francisco (been before). For some reason I kind of want to visit Shasta Lake... is this even worth going to? Should I sub it out for Tahoe?
My only question on California is which way to drive... I'm not sure if I'll be totally "over it" on the mountains, but are the Sierra Nevada mountains better to see than the coastal highway down to LA? I'm also skipping Vegas as I've been many times.
Am I missing anything major on this round trip? Throw me all the ideas! Am I crazy? Thank you to anybody who read this and gave answers!
