Climbing the rigging on Cairns reef boat Falla in February, 1994. Far North Queensland Australia

Since then the boat has sunk twice and been restored by Captain Doug Meyer.

Falla was originally a pearl diving boat out of Broome, WA built in 1956. It still sails the reef in the FNQ. There are no vessels working the reef today quite like Falla. Not the fastest or most spacious reef boat, but the historic vessel is the most unique that you can experience out on the reef.

I recommend trying a few different dive/reef boats if you have time when visiting Cairns, Australia. I went on a couple of the larger fast cats as well, while still a great day on the reef, they carry many more people, so not quite the same experience.
