Help me explore Europe, one weekend at a time

Hey guys, I'm going to be on assignment in Brussels for three months starting in a two months, and the nature of my job requires me to be busy from Monday to Thursday, followed by three days of complete freedom.

The last time I was in Brussels for one month, I spent weekends going around Belgium - one weekend at Ghent, Brussels itself for two weekends (walking to the three mannekens while drinking copiously, and one art museum weekend), and one weekend at Bruges ( pictures and walking around, and a guided walk).

Id like to be more ambitious this time - I have twelve weekends, and Brussels seems to have connections to every airport in the EU.

I've already got Amsterdam as one choice planned (specific recommendations appreciated though). I'm interested in exploring Switzerland but clueless about what I might find fun. I'm not even sure I've explored Brussels fully. Paris I explored nearly a decade ago, and is too much for just one weekend. I travel to London often enough that it's not a novelty anymore.

What other cities do you recommend I fly in to for a interesting, perhaps unexpected, weekend? Any specific activity recommendations would also be greatly appreciated.

Budget is not so tight. Say 400 euros per weekend at most for travel, accommodation, and entertainment, excluding food.
