Re-doing a trip where everything went wrong: advice for curbing anxiety?

**please no comments about the border being closed. The border is open to Americans traveling to and from Alaska. We have confirmed this with border crossing agents.**

Hi everyone. My wife and I are moving back to Alaska. The last time we did the drive, we had a horrible, horrible time. Our car broke down in a very remote area(5 hours from the nearest town). We had no signal and had to hitchhike to the nearest town. It was an extremely scary experience, especially because we are both women and the man who picked us up made us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. Once we arrived in town, we found out our car was totaled and we ended up having to live in a very remote village in the Yukon for a while until we were able to buy a new car.

This trip had been my first time on the AK highway, so i'm definitely more anxious than my wife who has taken it multiple times before.

We're now moving back up to Alaska. We will be taking the exact route that we took the last time we came down.

We're already getting the car checked out tomorrow. We are also planning on having written record of open mechanics/towing places/etc along the way. Is it worth investing in a SAT phone?

Granted, our horrible drive was in the middle of winter(it was actually the road condition that totaled the car) so hopefully more essential services, like mechanics, will be open. However nowadays you never know.

Does anyone have any advice for how to curb anxiety, as well as basic safety essentials for driving in remote areas with no service?
