Where can we go for a week beach vacation on the Northeast US (particularly NY, MA, or NJ) mid-August?

I’m at a loss. I’ve never done a vacation on the northeast before, so looking for advice. We’ll probably stay for 4-5 days, and these are the things we want:

1. Beautiful beach w/ clear waters and long stretches of powdery sand
2. Not necessarily family friendly
3. Has a good food scene (good number and variety of good restaurants that will keep us entertained for the duration)
4. Has a good bar scene (if bars re-open)
5. Has a variety of great accommodations (we really want to kick back and limit as much effort, so we want a hotel, but I didn’t see many hotels during my research)
6. Is close by (drivable) to a town that would have #3 and #4 if not right near to beach
7. Budget is about $150 per night for accommodations, and about $15-20 per meal for food (or NYC prices, for those familiar)

Any ideas?
