Hi Everyone,
I've decided to move permanently to some beach town (love kite surfing, snorkeling) in Mexico/Central America and thought best way to decide final destination would be to take a semi-leisurely solo, road-trip of about 2 months, starting Oct 1, from Mexico to Colombia, and interesting points in between.
I was hoping to keep the total budget less than $4000. Excluding equipment costs.
Initial thoughts were getting a reliable Toyota SUV and possibly taking a dog?
Pls share any input on
- can a dog be taken and brought back?
- Toyota good brand in case repairs needed?
-Visa's
-Safety
-car/suv breakdowns
-car/suv insurance
-Internet access while traveling
-GPS required?
-general costs: no more than $15/day food
-My 1st solo international road trip (only driven extensively in US before)
-what have i missed?
PS:
-US citizen
- I'm a "Brown Guy", only mention that cause I know it makes a difference in how I'm dealt with in different countries and cultures re: safety, hospitality, etc.
- Already Visited: Mexico, Dom Repub, Puerto Rico, Spain, Thailand, etc but never road tripped.
