Colorado Itinerary Advice

A couple of friends and I have booked a flight to Denver for mid-September. This will be our first trip to Colorado, and we’re mainly wanting to take in the awesome scenery of the Rockies. I’ve got a basic route in mind but wanted to know others’ thoughts that have been on how feasible it is and/or if there’s additional areas we need to check out.

We fly into Denver on Thursday evening and the plan is to head towards a hotel close to RMNP. We plan to spend the majority of Friday in RMNP doing easy to moderate hikes, then drive Trail Ridge Rd to one of the little towns for the night. Then do more sightseeing Saturday while continuing to drive through the mountains, stopping in places like Breckenridge along the way. We would like to continue on around towards Cañon City to Colorado Springs and stay there for the night. Sunday, go to Garden of the Gods before heading back up towards Denver, stopping by Red Rock Amphitheater and maybe even going on up to Flatirons if we have enough time. Then checking out Denver Monday until our flight Monday evening.

This is a completely tentative itinerary that I’ve came up with strictly from internet searches and google maps. I appreciate any advice to make our first trip smooth and memorable.
