Do you need to go through security for every domestic layover in the USA?

I'm flying into the US next week. I have a layover in FLL (first entry point to the US) and then I fly to ORD.

I know for a fact I'll have to go through customs/security at least once and I'll need to pick up my bag in FLL and place it in a connections conveyor, in the past I had already had a situation where I had to take 2 flights within the US, but I honestly don't remember anymore if I went through security in both airports. (I know in Europe it's not necessary)

So just wondering, will I need to go through customs and security in FLL, ORD or both?
