I want to visit less developed countries to see how the other side lives. What would be a good gradient for someone who has never traveled out of U.S.A? (starting with a country less developed than u.sa. but still developed enough to not be too difficult)

Title pretty much says it all. I am curious about how people live in countries like that because I have never experienced it. So what would be a good first country or part of a country that is less developed than usa but not too difficult and has access to water and food etc.? I speak English Spanish and decent Arabic.
