For many years I've wanted to visit Ireland. A long time ago me and my brother started working on this project that forced us to learn a lot about Irish culture. From then on I was hooked. The beauty, the people, and I loved the beer culture lol. But when I finally got the opportunity to visit Ireland, it blew me away! It was somehow better than I expected, and I expected a lot lol!
The people were amazing. Right after checking into my hostel I stepped into a Pub next door and got the greatest welcome ever. A group of maybe 7 Irish men all just screamed, "Heeeeey, where you from laddie?" Told them I was from Las Vegas and they all shouted, "Oooooh, Vegas, yeeeah!" Hahaha. Then the oldest one in the group asked me if I had Guinness in Ireland yet. I told him, no, and he proceeded to buy my first pint of Guinness! It was awesome
I stayed there chatting with them for about an hour but then I got hungry. When I told them that, they offered to show me a place to grab some food, which they did. They took me to A Chinese spot around the corner from where we were. All while merrily talking to everyone we ran into along the way. It was classic!
The next day, did a tour. Learned so much about Irish history. I had no idea how fascinating their history is. I felt like I was listening to Lord of the Rings meets Game of Thrones. I wasn't aware that those stories are all loosely based on Ireland's actual history. It was mind-blowing.
Met a guy who was convinced there are still 41 leprechauns in Ireland. Got to see the road of the 5 kings. (Has an epic story, I encourage to read about it at some point.) Went to a pub that was over 900 years old. Saw the castle where they shot the execution scene in Braveheart. (Ironic that that castle is in Ireland lol) Drank a ton of Guinness.
One thing that I find cool about Ireland is they have a cool beer culture but it's not raunchy. You don't see people puking and acting too uncivilized. They just enjoy alcohol, particularly Guinness. Some of the pubs had kids hanging out in them! It was awesome.
The music at the pubs was so cool. I always complain that many cultures tend to lose their identity as time progresses. I've visited so many countries where they're playing hip-hop or classic rock in countries that have no connection with that history. I mean it's cool and all, but when I travel I prefer to see the history of the locals. That includes listening to their music. So it was cool that they actually played Irish music at the Pubs. I even had the awesome opportunity to dance a hearty jig with some random people that I met in a pub one day, while guys at the pub were screaming "Go Vegas!!".
I could seriously write about Ireland all day long. It was just fabulous. I loved it and I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list. You won't regret it!
