What’s the best smaller, yet very walkable city you’ve been to?

So I love love love traveling. I will go pretty much anywhere but for me I enjoy culture and ways of living more than anything else. I want to feel like a local, eat like a local, shop like a local etc. I love walkable cities that feel hospitable and not overwhelming, and somewhere my feel won’t be blistered coming home from the day. My favorite example of this was a small town I stayed at outside of Florence. I never took a bus and everything felt right at my fingertips, yet close enough to Florence where I didn’t have to travel far to get there. Anyone have any great experiences of places like this?
