drinking rain water

I'm spending a month in costa rica on a farm where they collect rain water and from a stream. They say it's clean but what do you think? I'm thinking about bringing a filter. Boiling all my drinking water seems like a hassel and so does bringing plastic bottles. Would a Brita type filter even do anything? thanks
