Headed down south to the land of the pines...well, SC actually. Leaving New England with a truck and small camper for a week long (early April) round trip to Charleston, SC. Looking for free/cheap things to do away from crowds.
My wife and I have a baby boy and two pups coming along for the ride. Years ago I used to drive monthly between Asheville, NC and New Hampshire. I always did it in one go with no stops because I was on a schedule and by myself. The only exception was that I stopped at Gettysburg once and it was amazing!
I am going to be stopping for one night on the way down to Charleston and one night on the way back. I want it to be a relaxing drive for all of us as this will be our first time leaving traveling anywhere other than Boston since our son was born in Dec 2019. We both work in the health field (frontline) and our son has medical needs so the past 13 months have been...stressful. Its been stressful for everyone. Before all this, we loved to travel around and see things, and we need to stretch our legs a little bit. Plus, our son needs to meet my family, non of whom live in New England.
When I travel to the Carolinas, I usually head out to Scranton first and go straight down 81 to avoid the nightmare of NYC. I am not opposed to riding 95 straight down though. Any suggestions or ideas would be awesome!
Stay safe!
