What situation made you feel ignorant during your travels?

i guess is start off with the personal mindset i was in back then.

I was right out of high school. We had very biased history lessons. Europe was the winner in everything and has never done anything bad. Even the local dictators where set in a rather numbing light and many facts have been brushed off, i found out later in life.

I went an travelled india. I knew some spanish and portuguese people where there at some point because spices, but i went to see goa and... they really didn't joke by destroying every place of worship and set a church there.

I visited an ashram in the south. The Amrita place of Amma, the hugging saint they call her. I tried ti learn some malayalam with a teacher and she gave me a crash history lesson about india. Cut off hands and limbs, cuz they were afraif of the magic powers mudras have. Slavery, you get it.

I knew so little. I thought while visiting chennai a little later. some French bakeries remind of them. "the french must have been nice" i thought, only to get taught a different story by a college prof i met at a beach shack.

I went to thailand and hopped over to cambodia at some point. Such young people around, i thought, only to hear how the red kymers came to power.

I guess i learned, that i was pretty ignorant.
