If you were to explore every US state one after the other, how long would you prefer your trip to be?

For context, I travel a lot and I did spend a couple months on the road exploring just a fraction of the US. I had a friend ask, if given the opportunity, how long would you spend on the road to explore the entire country? Plus or minus Alaska/Hawaii, but assume driving the lower 48.

My reply was about a week a State but driving nearly every day would be brutal like my trip was. I would likely spend a week in or around major cities or major landmarks in the same spot if my only goal was to get a taste of every state.

Thoughts? Would some of you go faster? Slower?

I think I would take a year and I would go in a squiggle line North to South (up and back down then up and back down) to catch all the weather vs chasing weather like that popular 70 Degree average road trip map.
