I'm flying for the first time with my two kids and need to know what documents I need to bring?

So for the first time I'm going to be taking my two children (5f,1m) out of state just to a different state and I wanted to know what kind of documents or anything at all I need to bring. I googled it and it says I may need a birth certificate but it did say in certain circumstances.
