10 months expired US Passport. Can I enter Canada and return to USA with additional documentation ?

Hello Travel Reddit,

My US Passport expired 10 months ago. I have a trip planned to enter Canada by automobile this upcoming week and return to the USA by automobile in a few days.
Is there anyway I can use my expired US Passport + additional documentation(Birth certificate, license, etc) to enter Canadian Borders and also return to the USA Borders afterwards? Please let me know if you have had any experience traveling with expired Passport.
