I flew business class for the first time ever today. (An actual flat bed on a flight! 5 hours of sleep! Amazing!)
At takeoff, the flight attendant pointed out a button above my shoulder. Press it, blue light comes on. Press it again, no light. The flight attendant told me that if the light is on, that means "Do not disturb" and they will not wake you for meals or anything else.
So I did not press the button and went to sleep, expecting to be woken up for meal service. This did not happen. When I did wake up, I was told that the meals could not be served anymore as it was more than 2 hours after takeoff and the food temperature was not considered safe anymore. I was pretty disappointed to miss out on business class food, the menu looked really good. They did offer me a sandwich but it was obviously not the same caliber as the things from the main food service menu.
Another flight attendant later said they had changed what the button means (?!), as too many passengers had gotten confused. She said if the light is on, that means "Wake me for meals" and that the previous flight attendant had told me the wrong thing.
I guess I just have to tell the flight attendants each time whether to wake me before I go to sleep, so there's no confusion? Or make a sign or something?
Any insight or personal experiences here?
