EDIT: Thank you everyone who responded. We’re still flying to Florida to hopefully and see what happens. Hopes are low but at least I don’t feel alone in how stupid this endeavor is. Mother in law won’t take “no” for an answer and is telling us to bring any form of ID possible, not limited to utility bills, old college ID, work badge (I’d laugh at this one if I wasn’t so miserable right now).
My boyfriend and I were supposed to meet his family in the Bahamas for a thanksgiving trip. The flight is tomorrow.
Our dog somehow managed to snatch our passports from the kitchen counter (first time he ever got anything from up there and of course it was out passports) and chewed on them while we were at work.
The damage is mostly done to the upper right corner of the booklet, basically making the left, bottom scannable text under our photo unreadable as a chunk is missing from my boyfriend’s, and a couple of letters from mine.
Our photos, names, and passport number are still intact. But I called and woman told me any damage done makes the passports invalid.
My question is, even if we make it to the Bahamas with the passports in the state they are, is it safe to use them on the way back to the states? My biggest fear is not being able to come back home when planned and being stuck in the Bahamas. Thanks
