Need advice for going through US customs!

Hi everyone! I will be visiting my boyfriend in the US for the first time this February, and I'm super thrilled! He is American and I'm Italian and this will be my first time flying overseas. I've been to a few places within EU borders, but I've never traveled for more than an hour and a half by plane.

I booked my tickets a month and a half ago because they were really cheap. I ended up spending around 450 euros for a round trip with two layovers total - one from IT to US (JFK), the second one from US to IT (Heathrow). I booked these flights specifically because they allowed me to have around 4 hours for each layover, which I thought was perfectly enough time to get my bags, go through customs, find my way around the airport and check-in for the next flight.

Now, a few days ago I received an e-mail from my airline (AA) and it says that there was a change in my flight from JFK to my final destination, which leaves me with a layover of only two hours in NY. I told my boyfriend about it and he was extremely chill, but I'm still worrying a lot because I've never done this before and when he visited me in Italy he had it super easy at the airport.

As I've already mentioned, this would be my first time traveling to the US and I would do so with an ESTA. I would be spending exactly a month and two weeks at my boyfriend's house and then go back home. I already have all the tickets and I'm not planning to take anything with me that needs to be declared. My only issue is the fact that I've never been through customs before, and I haven't really heard positive things from people entering the US when it comes to customs officers.

Should I contact AA and ask them to change my connecting flight to a different one to have more time to do everything, or are two hours going to be enough? I don't know how long it usually takes, how long the line is going to be in the beginning of February, how long questioning takes etc. I chose the four hours layover for this specific reason, but now I'm not sure what to do.

Also, on an unrelated (but not quite) note, if I spent this month and a half at my boyfriend's house on an ESTA, would I still have to wait six months to visit him again or is it only for when the whole three months are spent in the US? I've tried looking it up but I never seem to write the question clearly enough for Google to give me the answers I'm looking for. Thank you in advance!
