Crossing US-Canada land border to go to US airport for an international flight. What US border guard questions should I expect?

I’m a Canadian from Vancouver, and I’ll soon be crossing the Peace Arch border crossing to go to SEA airport in order to take an international flight to Japan. I plan on taking a Greyhound bus across the border, and I also have NEXUS.

Reason being is that I got a good deal on a flight from Seattle to Osaka with a 1.5hr layover in Honolulu (SEA-HNL-KIX)

I’ve done this in the past by Air by saying that I’m transiting through the US, and that I’ll leave the country in less than 24 hours.

But this is my first time doing it by land, and I know that the US border guards at the land border checkpoints tend to ask a lot more questions than at air checkpoints - especially since I won’t have any hotel lined up in Seattle because I’m only transiting.

Furthermore, although I will be leaving Seattle within 24 hours, because of my layover in Honolulu, it’d be at around the 30 hour mark that I “leave” the US through my leg from HNL-KIX.

Should I say the same thing (that I’ll be transiting through the US and will leave the country), or should I phrase it differently?
