Have a Malaysia trip planned on February. Seeking advice about best way to move around, being safe and recommendations.

This will be my first time traveling without my parents and quite nervous, especially after reading a post about someone's experience going to Thailand. If you guys could give me advice about how to have a good time by minimizing cost (especially in terms of transportation and food), being safe, avoiding scams etc. Will highly appreciate it.
