My girlfriend and I (27/28) will be heading to Norway in late September - first time there for both of us. We are pretty open-minded, but would prefer to see the country-side over exploring big cities. We are not big campers and I would say we are on a mid-range budget (want to be comfortable and happy to pay for amazing experiences). Current plan is loosely as follows (drive times as per Google maps with a bit added on):
Day 1: Fly into Bergen, arriving early afternoon. Probably some relaxed exploring of Bergen, trying to get to the main attractions if possible
Day 2: Drive Bergen —> Hellesylt via Forde and Loen (~6h drive time). Loen Skylift if time permits.
Day 3: Drive Hellesylt —> Åndalsnes via Geiranger (~4h drive time). Hike in Geiranger for a couple hours. Gondola up to Nesaksla if time when we arrive at Åndalsnes.
Day 4: Drive Åndalsnes —> Trondheim via Atlantic Ocean Rd (~6h drive time).
Day 5: Fly Trondheim —> Tromsø (1.5h flight), explore Tromsø, Northern Lights tour
Day 6: Still in Tromsø, day trip somewhere/dog sledding/etc, Northern Lights tour if no luck on Day 5
Day 7: Fly Tromso —> Oslo (3h flight) and hit main tourist attractions during the day. Flight out to next destination is early the next day.
While we know Tromsø is impractical given there rest of the trip, we really would love a chance to see the northern lights so we are willing to sacrifice some time.
Would love some feedback - thank you!
