help with a Germany trip

I everyone. I want to plan a trip to Germany but I'm having issues with where to go and how to get there and time constraints.

I am very interested in medieval history, castles, museums, gothic and neo classical architecture and natural beauty.

I was thinking of going to the Rhine river area but I also found a cruise that sees almost everything I want to see in that area. But I am also thinking about Nuremberg, the black forest and quedlinburg. I would also like to see Berlin for the museums there. I also like folklore and legends.

So you can see my problem, basically everything I want to see is in a different section of the country. I wouldn't mind getting a car since Germany drives on the right hand side like USA does but I don't really like driving in cities and feel like for some cities it would be a waste of money to have a car.

I was thinking maybe I could find a home base then drive out from there but everything I want to see is on the other side of the country.
