What do you do with important personal items while traveling?

I’m talking irreplaceable, deeply sentimental, but ultimately low monetary value items.

For example, I’m a grown ass adult still deeply attached to my baby blanket.

On the one hand, I want to keep it with me on my carry on while traveling. But what if I’m jet lagged and I forget it somewhere? Or somehow my bag is lost or stolen?

On the other hand, maybe it’s safer to leave it at home. But what if my house burns down while I’m gone?!

I know it’s irrational but the point stands. What do you do with things like this while you’re traveling?
