Is there a benefit to traveling during "high season"?

Is there a benefit to traveling during "high season"? Or is the only "benefit" because that happens to be when most people can take a vacation? I ask because I like to travel, but I am not currently living in a Western country, so my vacation days are (in general) radically different from those in the United States (where I grew up). The result is that I get to go on vacations during "low season." This is good for my wallet, of course, but I have to ask - am I actually missing out on anything? Or am I just saving money?

(Note: Not asking about season-specific events, of course.)

TIA
