Will be In the United States for 35 days what is the best way to see a lot of your beautiful country?

Hello my friends, I hope this is the right community to asks this question. I will be travelling to the United States in 7 days and my first destination is New York. I plan to stay there for 7 days.

Nothing else is planned and therefore I would love to hear some recommendation what to do next. Should I fly to Miami next, checking out the city and then exploring Florida via bus ? I also thought about traveling to Miami by bus while visiting Washington and some other cities on the way.

I also thought about flying to the west cost (for example San Francisco) to see some places there. However my return flight is from New York so this will be my final destination.

As you can see, I am not sure what to do right now. I like to explore (nature, cities etc..) and this should be the primary goal of my visit. I would like to avoid renting a car since it is quite expensive.
