I am a 30F looking to quit my job and taking a break to travel. I work a high paying job and have no debts/kids and I am currently renting. I have realized that the career I am in is not for me (zero work-life balance, lots of overtime, with the reward of good work being more work) and am looking for a change. I have no idea what the next step in my career is and thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to take a break to clear my mind and explore the world. I have always had an urge to travel but due to my job, I have not been able to see as much of the world as I’d like. I used to think the idea of quitting my job to travel was completely crazy, but recent travel experiences and recent poor mental health have left me wanting more from life. I understand that I am privileged to even consider this.
My plan is to continue saving for a bit more. I am hoping to travel Europe for 3-4 months, though I know other parts of the world may be more affordable long-term. For those that have done something like this before, what have you budgeted? Once you returned to your home country, did you regret it? Any tips for someone heading out on longer term travel for the first time?
