Tested positive for covid during vacation, any advice on how to proceed?

UPDATE 3 (final update from agent): The travel insurance policy that I have only provides flight coverage. The agent mentioned I would have the potential for coverage for changes in the flight and flight alone, so accommodations such as hotel stays for quarantine is sadly not covered. Therefore, I'll either have to just leave tonight and have them reimburse that fee or pay the price to stay here until I test negative. I'm not sure when I'll test negative, and I personally don't think I can afford to book another hotel in Nice for an additional 5 days or who knows when until I test negative.

UPDATE 2: Travel insurance agent says under this policy, it would only provide coverage for the flight and no outside arrangements. I booked through Expedia. I'm assuming, they won't reimburse me for my stays to quarantine here, but rather only changing the flight. I'm chatting with an agent online since I don't have calling on my phone, but still clarifying some more details, but I'm assuming, my options now have narrowed which are:

  1. to spend $$ on a hotel until I test negative, which I'm not sure when that would be
  2. Change my flight asap and just head home and get reimbursed for the flight changes?
  3. continue on the trip moving with precaution and quarantine at the final stay

UPDATE: I'm speaking with the travel agency insurance rep and I'm still clarifying some details with them, but it seems like the policy won't even be enough to cover staying in Nice until I test negative + arrangements to change the flight back home? Ideally, I'd want to stay and quarantine here.

I'm currently in Nice, France and woke up with a really heavy headache, fever, and body aches, so I decided to take an at-home COVID test and it turned out to be positive. Tonight is my last night here, and tomorrow is my flight for Italy (staying for 5 days there before going back to the states). I'm conflicted on an ethical way to move forward and minimizing the spread? Here are some thoughts I had, I'd love feedback on them.

  • Should I double mask and look for flights to head back home?
    • This is just the first option that came to mind, however, it doesn't seem feasible. I don't think I can be in a really long plane ride right now and I definitely don't want to be coughing and spreading my germs on a long flight. Also, I looked and all the flights from Nice to LAX are at least 24 hours duration, which I can't do in my current condition.
  • Should I move to a different hotel in Nice and extend my stay here until I tested negative?
    • I'm a little scared for this option, because I don't know if this is covered by travel insurance. My policy does have interruptions included in it, but I'm speaking to an agent right now to see if this option would be feasible for a reimbursement? I looked for flights out of Nice even 5-10 days later the prices are extremely high and travel duration are close to a whole day, which is not ideal. I also used 2 weeks of PTO for this trip (job is wfh but sadly don't have my work laptop with me), so that's another thing to consider.
  • Should I continue on my travel to Italy and quarantine for 5 days there and then head home after those 5 days?
    • I suspect I got it like 3-4 days ago, though around that time I assumed it was just a mild cold since I only had a sore throat. Perhaps, this option will allow me some time to potentially hit the 10 day quarantine mark? This option seems the most cost effective to me since the flight from Nice to Italy is relatively short and I wouldn't have so much financial risk on the line. I did book a day trip to the Amalfi coast though which is now non-refundable, however, I can submit a claim to the travel insurance and the risk is lower since it's not as pricey as a last minute flight?

I'm leaning towards masking and continuing to my next destination (Italy) and just quarantine in my hotel until my flight home. I am heading to a clinic right now though to get a PCR test, but finishing up the trip and moving cautiously seems like the most cost-efficient approach. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
