What is a custom that you have experienced traveling that you wish your home country would adopt?

I have two.

The first is every meal being a buffet. I am in Thailand right now and I go out and eat with a local family most evening and we order a bunch of food and then everyone shares the food.

I much prefer this over you order your own food and do not share like how things are typically done in the US.

The other one is what is called the Y here in Thailand. Basically to thank someone or greeting someone you do a prayer. Where your arms look like a Y.

Now technically the height of your prayer is related to where this person falls in terms of respect. So say you are greeting a monk you are suppose to do the Y higher up. Maybe at your nose with your thumbs.

A little lower for someone like a teacher or parent. Then end of your fingers at your nose. Then a little lower so say goodbye to your friend. The end of your fingers hitting your lip. Then when saying goodbye to the cashier at the grocery store the end of your fingers hitting your chin.

BTW, the other custom that I am too lazy to adopt when not in Thailand but I think makes a ton of sense is taking off your shoes at the door. Makes keeping your house clean a lot easier.
